melbourne

{this was our favorite pic at the airport.  budgie smuggler= a speedo}
So at the beginning of December Jared's work had a Christmas party down in Melbourne.  Since Jared works in the Sydney office we had to fly to Melbourne..Darn it!  I know, it was rough. :)  It was a quick trip but we had so much fun.  We haven't flown together just the two of us since we flew to Jackson Hole for our honeymoon.  We have taken trips together just the two of us but never flown together. We laughed and talked at the airport, people watched, met an interesting guy that lives in Israel.  He had some cool stories.  Of course it was hard for me to leave my babies.  We left them in great hands with some great friends.  We played Ticket to Ride on the iPad on the flight.  I actually could enjoy my drink and not worry about it getting knocked off my lap. :) It was a quick hour and 20 minute flight.

When we arrived we took a taxi from the airport to our hotel.  We had just enough time to check in, change and then hop on a tram to the company Christmas dinner party.  It was good to actually meet so many people I have heard Jared talk about or have calls with.  Always good to put a face with a name.  The food was great.  I think we were one a only a few that weren't drinking so the night got progressively louder.  I met some nice people and overall it was a very fun night.
Instead of taking a taxi back to the hotel we decided to take the tram that went through the city.  I loved seeing the city and night.  We even hopped off and stopped in at a pastry shop that is open 24 hours which is pretty unheard of in Australia, and grabbed a warm chocolate croissant to share while we walked the rest of the way to our hotel.

Jared took this photo of me on the fancy smancy couch at the restaurant.

Of course I called to check in about a million times..can't help it, they are my babies.  Everyone was fine, of course, even my baby Jack, who I worried wouldn't know me after 40 hours of being away....haha, I know, silly thinking.

Since it was just the two of us, there are a lot of just the two of us pictures.  The hotel was super nice.  I can count on two hands, maybe even one, how many times I have stayed in a really nice hotel.  My family always camped growing up.  So it was fancy to stay in such a nice hotel.

The next day we walked and walked and walked.  We covered quite a bit of that city.  Hopping on trams here and there and everywhere.  One of Jared's work colleagues made us a to see and do list while we were there and I think we did it all.

The streets were decked out in Christmas decorations.  We did some shopping and looked at the awesome window displays in Myers.  We actually butted in front of about a billion school kids, otherwise we would have been there for ages.  Rude, I know. :)

The tram rides were fun, and relaxing.  We stopped in at an gelato shop and had a double scoop.

We saw this giant 4 and thought of Lucy.

Federation Square....it was abnormally hot while we were there.  When we got to Federation Square we saw some lawn chairs under a canopy and took a nap, like a a full on, we were out cold, nap.  Then some people came and asked to interview us for a travel web show.  So we talked about Sydney.  I will have to find the link sometime and post it.

We met our good friends the Riley's for a super quick visit.  They used to live in Sydney {originally from Utah} and now they live in Melbourne.  It was great to catch up.  They were off to a company Christmas party and we were off to have dinner so the visit was short and sweet but of course we got in lots of good laughs.

We had dinner at a super yummy place called The Cookie.  It was an interesting scene, but great food.  We walked back to the hotel, grabbed our stuff, took a taxi back to the airport and hopped back on a flight to Sydney.  It was a much needed get away.  We arrived home and found all of the kiddos asleep and well. :)
