fangs, pom poms and long nails

It seems like we celebrated Halloween all week long.  It is not a huge holiday here, in fact you rarely see decorations until the day of and even then there aren't many.  We have been told that the holiday is getting more popular with each passing year.

For Family Home Evening on Monday night we decided to have a little Halloween themed dinner.  Back in the US we usually will carve pumpkins...that didn't happen because I couldn't swallow the idea of spending $150 on 6 pumpkins...yes, there are $25 per pumpkin here.
We usually do the donut game...a game we always did in the Schill household growing up.  I went to the store to get donuts and there was not a single one is site...kind of weird, but I couldn't be bothered to go driving around in search of donuts.

So we pretty much just did the dinner and decorated paper pumpkins.
A few tasty morsels that were on the scary menu.....

baby carrots don't exist here so carving a big carrots was interesting..

Here are our skeleton/frankenstein cupcakes....half the fam thought they looked like skeletons and the other half frankenstein

Worm punch was more for show because it tasted pretty gross...the worms made it slimy and there were too many chunks of sugary floaties.

the spread...

Next up...
On Wednesday a group of "mums" get together for a playgroup.  We hop around to each others houses, go to the park or whatever.  We decided to do a Halloween party this week at my house.  It turned out to be a lot of fun.  We had close to 20 kids 5 and under.  Alivia & Rex wanted to skip school so bad that day when they found out the party would be at our house....I made them go to school. :)

They kids decorated cookies...

My friend Gemmah cuddling Jack for me..

Some BYU Cougar fans...

We played fun festive games...the kids ran around...ate a ton of food...went trick or treating around the house...

Laura & Sarah

Me whipping up some mummy pizzas for the hungry bunch..

We made ghost necklaces..

Everyone brought food and there were some pretty creative things there.

Cute Memphis & Janelle

Although some moms and kids had already left, we managed to round up everyone for a group photo.

 And the partying continues...
Saturday was a marathon day.  It was one of those days where everything happened to fall on the same day.  We cleaned the church, went to a nice baptism, met a friend in the city to have our family pictures taken in a beautiful area of Sydney called The Rocks, then hurried back to catch the tail end of a Halloween/pool party that our friends the Hall's were having at their house.

The water was pretty cold, but that doesn't seem to stop kids..they loved it.

Rex has REALLY missed swimming..it has been a long winter without pool time.

After the party we went to our friends the Prepchuks.  They went on an awesome trip all over Australia the last two weeks in a caravan. (if you ask or kids they will say they were gone for more like 2 years, not 2 weeks...they missed them...a lot!!)  They stopped in Melbourne at Costco and bought A&W Root beer.  We sat there and talked while sipping our root beer.  It had been nearly 2 years since our last sip. :)  It was delicious!!

Of Course next comes the trick or treating...
Jack was Jack with ogre ears on...he was being go silly and would crack these cute little side smiles that were so cute!

My fanged toothed vampire...my adorable pom pom cheering, BYU lover cheerleader...and my long nailed spider witch.  I made Liv scratch my arms with those puppies..haha

We went out to a few houses with a few friends...just to give the kids an opportunity to wear their costumes and get a few treats.

Happy Halloween!!
